Privacy Policy for RE:Painter

Effective date: June 6, 2026 Last updated: June 6, 2026

RE:Painter ("the App," "we," "us," or "our") is operated by LionByte LLC. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We've tried to write it in plain language.

By using RE:Painter, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

Contact: contact@lionbyteapps.com

1. The short version

  • RE:Painter lets you photograph a plastic model kit, turn the photo into line art, color it, and generate an AI "painted" visualization.
  • To create the line art and visualizations, your photos and the artwork you color are sent to Google's Gemini AI for processing. This is essential to how the App works.
  • We use Sign in with Apple for accounts. We do not collect passwords.
  • We use a small number of trusted service providers (Google Firebase, Google Gemini, RevenueCat, and an email provider) to run the App.
  • We do not show ads, we do not use advertising/tracking identifiers (no IDFA), and we do not sell your personal data.
  • You can delete your account and associated data at any time from within the App.

2. Information we collect

a. Account information

When you sign in with Apple, we receive:

  • A Firebase user ID (an opaque account identifier we use to associate your data with you).
  • Your email address, if you choose to share it. With Sign in with Apple, this may be a private "relay" email address that hides your real email.
  • Your name, if you choose to share it.

You control what Apple shares with us at sign-in.

b. Photos and artwork you create

  • Photos you capture or provide of your model kits.
  • Line art generated from your photos.
  • The colored artwork you create in the App.
  • AI-generated visualizations produced from your photo and coloring.
  • Project details you enter, such as project names and your style choices (finish, weathering, panel-line, and style preferences).

These images and project details are stored in your account so you can return to your projects.

c. Onboarding and preference information

During onboarding we save the goals and style preferences you select (for example, your stated goal, preferred painting finish, and weathering level) so we can tailor the experience. We may derive a general "style profile" from these choices.

d. Purchase and subscription information

Purchases, subscriptions, and in-app "credits" are handled by RevenueCat working together with Apple's App Store. We and RevenueCat receive information such as your subscription status, entitlements, transaction identifiers, product identifiers, purchase dates, and your credit balance. We never receive or store your full payment card details — payment is processed entirely by Apple.

To grant one-time new-user credits and prevent abuse of that offer, we store a record tied to your Apple account identifier indicating that the credits were claimed. See Section 6 (Data retention) for important details about this record.

e. Device and diagnostic information (feedback)

If you submit feedback through the App, we collect the message and optional rating you provide, along with technical context to help us troubleshoot:

  • App version and build number
  • Operating system and version (for example, "iOS 18.0")
  • Device model identifier (for example, "iPhone16,1" — a technical model code, not a personal device name)
  • Device locale (language/region)
  • Your subscription status and credit balance at the time
  • Your account ID (if you are signed in)

f. Usage analytics

We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand how the App is used and to improve it. We log events such as screens viewed, onboarding progress, project creation, line-art and visualization generation (including duration and high-level style choices), subscription/paywall interactions, and non-fatal error information.

We take steps to keep analytics free of sensitive personal data: parameter values are truncated, account age is recorded only in broad ranges (not exact dates), and we do not include your email, name, or the contents of your photos in analytics events. Analytics events are associated with an app-generated identifier, not your name or email.

g. Information collected automatically by our infrastructure

When the App communicates with our servers (Google Firebase and Google Cloud), our service providers automatically process technical data such as IP address and request metadata as part of delivering, securing, and monitoring the service. We use Firebase App Check to help ensure requests come from genuine installations of our App.

h. What we do not collect

  • We do not collect precise or background location.
  • We do not use advertising identifiers (IDFA) and we do not serve ads.
  • We do not access your contacts, calendar, microphone, or health data.
  • We do not collect your phone number.
  • We do not read your photo library; we only request permission to save generated images to your library if you choose to.

3. How we use your information

We use the information described above to:

  • Provide the core features of the App — generating line art and AI visualizations from your photos and coloring.
  • Store and display your projects, artwork, and preferences across sessions.
  • Process purchases, manage subscriptions, and track in-app credits.
  • Grant new-user credits and prevent abuse of that offer.
  • Respond to your feedback and support requests.
  • Understand usage, diagnose problems, and improve the App.
  • Protect the App and our users against fraud, abuse, and security threats.

We do not use your photos or artwork to serve advertising, and we do not sell your personal information.

4. AI processing of your photos and artwork

This is important, so we call it out separately.

To generate line art, your uploaded photo is transmitted to Google's Gemini AI service for processing. To generate a painted visualization, both your original photo and your colored artwork are transmitted to Google's Gemini AI service, along with the style instructions derived from your preferences.

This processing is performed by Google as our service provider and is necessary to deliver the App's features — there is no offline alternative for these AI features. We use Google's paid Gemini API tier. Under Google's terms for that paid service, Google does not use your photos, artwork, prompts, or the generated results to train or improve its AI models. Google's handling of data submitted to its Gemini API is otherwise governed by Google's terms and privacy commitments for that service. We encourage you to review Google's privacy documentation:

5. How we share information

We do not sell your personal data. We share information only with the service providers that make the App work, and only as needed to provide the service:

Service provider What they handle Purpose
Google (Firebase & Google Cloud) Authentication, database (Firestore), file storage, analytics, app integrity (App Check), and hosting Core backend, account management, storing your projects and images, usage analytics
Google (Gemini AI) Your photos and colored artwork, plus style prompts Generating line art and AI visualizations
RevenueCat Subscription status, transaction and product identifiers, account identifier, credit balance Managing purchases, subscriptions, and credits
Apple Sign in with Apple, App Store purchases Account sign-in and payment processing
Resend (email delivery) The feedback message and its technical context you submit Delivering your feedback to our support inbox

We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the public.

Each provider processes your information under its own privacy terms. Links:

6. Data retention

  • Projects, images, and artwork are retained until you delete the individual project or your account.
  • Account information is retained for the life of your account.
  • Feedback you submit is retained so we can review and act on it, and a copy is delivered to our support email.
  • Abuse-prevention record: When you claim new-user credits, we store a record tied to your Apple account identifier. For fraud-prevention purposes, this specific record is intentionally kept even after you delete your account, so the one-time new-user offer cannot be repeatedly re-claimed. It is used only to prevent abuse of that offer.
  • Operational logs generated by our infrastructure (which may include opaque account identifiers) are retained on a rolling basis for security and troubleshooting.

When data is processed by Google's Gemini AI, retention of that data is governed by Google's terms for the Gemini API.

7. Deleting your data

You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account in the App. When you delete your account, we remove:

  • Your projects and their images (original photos, line art, colored artwork, and visualizations),
  • Your stored account profile and preferences,
  • Your customer record with RevenueCat, and
  • Your authentication account.

As noted in Section 6, a minimal abuse-prevention record tied to your Apple identifier, and any previously submitted feedback, may be retained.

You may also delete individual projects (and their associated images) at any time from within the App.

To request help with data deletion, contact us at contact@lionbyteapps.com.

8. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including the right to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your data, and to object to or restrict certain processing.

  • EEA/UK (GDPR): Our legal bases for processing include performance of our contract with you (providing the App), our legitimate interests (improving and securing the App, preventing abuse), your consent (for example, device permissions), and compliance with legal obligations.
  • California (CCPA/CPRA): We do not sell or "share" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. You have the right to know, delete, and correct your personal information, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at contact@lionbyteapps.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding. You can exercise most rights directly through the App's account-deletion feature.

9. International data transfers

We and our service providers operate using cloud infrastructure that may store and process your information on servers located outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers. By using the App, you understand your information may be processed in these locations.

10. Children's privacy

RE:Painter is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us at contact@lionbyteapps.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

11. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including authentication, access controls that restrict your data to your account, app-integrity checks (App Check), and encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Permissions we request

  • Camera — to capture photos of your model kits. ("This app uses the camera to capture pictures of your model kits to help you visualize different color styles.")
  • Save to Photos — to save generated visualizations to your photo library, if you choose to. ("To save your generated visualizations to your photo library.")

You can manage these permissions at any time in your device's Settings.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide notice in the App. Your continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
